Soldiers, Police repulse reprisal attack over Ekiti mayhem

By WOLE BALOGUN, ADO EKITI

Personnel of the Nigerian Army, the police force and other security operatives yesterday foiled a reprisal attack allegedly planned by members of the Road Transport  Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).

Following the protest generated by the assassination of the former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Ekiti State, Mr Omolafe Aderiye, the security operatives who were on top of their game at restoring peace in the state did their best to prevent the movement of arms into the State by hoodlums.

The police have also initiated a stop and search operation on vehicles entering the State from neighbouring States, particularly those from Ijan   and Ikere Ekiti  axes.

It would be recalled that sequel to the assassination of the ex-NURTW boss  by suspected gunmen on Thursday’s night , the House and vehicles belonging to  his rival and former Chairman, RTEAN in Ekiti, Mr Rotimi Olabiwonnu , were burnt during the protest that engulfed the State capital to express  grievances over the gruesome murder of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Chieftain .
