Serial forger?

• Bubble bursts for man accused of forging several certificates, visas

By Vincent Kalu
Nemesis has caught up with 36-year-old Adeniyi Adebayo Daniel who has been accused of forging certificates of various tertiary institutions across the country. Daniel, who hails from Osun State, attended Ajangbadi High School in Lagos and obtained only a secondary school certificate before setting up a tutorial centre, at Isashi, in Ojo area of Lagos, where he prepares students for West African Examinations Council (WAEC) supervised exams, National Examinations Council (NECO) exams; Joint Admission and Matriculations Board examinations, among others.

With alleged forged certificates of various tertiary institutions, no one would be in doubt of his academic competence to operate a tutorial centre.

He allegedly forged the final year NCE examination results of Osun State College of Education, Ila- Orangun. The statement of result dated May 15, 2001, addressed to  Adeniyi, Adebayo Daniel, School of Social Science, was signed by one Bayo Fasina for the Registrar. The result shows that he scored B, which is credit in three subjects – Education, Teaching Practice and Economics, while in Mathematics, he made A, that is, Distinction, and General Studies in Education, he had C, which is Merit.

He was also alleged to have forged Tai Solarin College of Education Notification of 2000/2001 final NCE results.

The result notification was dated May 5, 2001, with Matric No: 98/01/4762, and addressed to Adebayo Daniel Adeniyi of Applied Sciences Department. Of the four major subjects, he had Credit in both Teaching Practice and Education; and Distinction in Mathematics and Physics. For the General Studies, he had Upper Credit in both Citizenship Education and General Sciences, while in Language and Communication Skills, he scored Credit.

Not satisfied with ‘NCE certificates’, his insatiable appetite for forged certificates took him to Lagos State University, Ojo. He also allegedly forged Notification of Final year degree examination result 2003/2004 Academic Session. The notification, signed by one T.O. Ajijola, Principal Assistant Registrar (Academics) for the Registrar, reads in part: “ I have the pleasure to inform you that you have satisfied the examiner in the Bachelor of Science final year degree examination held in Hammartan and Rain semesters 2003/2004 Academic session.

“The Senate of the university consider (sic) and approved the recommendation of the faculty board of Science to award you the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with second Class Upper Division.”

After ‘graduating’ from Lagos State University, Ojo, he went further and procured a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate, with certificate number: A 703105, which stated that he started his national service on March 3, 2004 and was discharged on March 2, 2005.

The bubble bursts

The bubble, however, burst for Daniel, when two brothers, Sani Sabir and Sani Mouref, both staff of LASU, wanted to procure Qatar visas. Daniel promised to help them secure the travel document. They gave him N1.2 million for two visas, that is, N600, 000 each. He went ahead to procure fake visas for the two brothers.

The Sanis reported him at the Area E police command, Festac. He was arrested and it was during a search by the police in his house that a can of worms was opened as the several forged certificates in his kitty were recovered.

He was charged to Magistrate Court 2 Apapa on a three-count charge that borders on forgery in suit no: B/86/2013 between Commissioner of Police and Adeniyi Adebayo Daniel.
