Sahara Reporters and Factualized Fiction By Franklin Egbuche

Sometime in October last year, I wrote something that made me very, very happy – In Defense Of Stella Oduah. Although that angered many people and I got called lots of names and even made some to ‘unfriend’ me, I never shifted even in the slightest way from my position. And now, I am even happier and looking forward to taking my happiness to a new crescendo.

Yesterday, I thought I’d be writing “In Defense of Stella Oduah Part Two” but some wonderful souls in Nigeria saved me the stress; namely Nigerian Liberation Movement, an organization that took it upon itself to carry out its own investigation on the sensational school certificate forgery lies told against Stella Oduah by the same Sahara Reporters and this time, in partnership with Premium Times.

But no, I will rather focus on Sahara Reporters as they deserve a standing ovation but they are not being honoured with what they merit.
So many of us read SR (Sahara Reporters) for all the wrong reasons – as a news medium, that’s plain wrong. SR is a worthy media but not news, rather they are highly gifted in factualized fiction, something even the great Dan Brown will envy at.

SR is an entertainment house and they are very creative when you compare them with other entertainment studios that keep churning out boring materials. On the contrary, SR has held millions of Nigerians spellbound with their tales and so many swallow their words hook, line and sinker. That’s talent. Their creativity is unmatched and their acts of deceptions has flawed even those of Houdini and Franz (two of the greatest magicians ever lived).

Its only unfortunate that so many Nigerians don’t see that wonderful ‘more you look less you see’ uncanny ability of SR and take their entertainment products as facts. Arguing over Sahara Reporter’s Studio production is like arguing over Tom and Jerry programs; you watch them for the fun of it not as something to be considered true nor reliable.

Anyway, the recent lies told against the Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, is not surprising, at least not to me cause I expect that and still expect even more. She is being targeted for a truckload of reasons but ultimately, getting rid of her is equivalent to giving the President a low blow. So I expect both the President and the Minister to be prepared for more assault.

For those who don’t know, Nigerian Liberation Movement contacted the school in question, St Paul’s College in US and the President, Mr Peter Stith, said:
“I did not talk to Sahara Reporters about Stella Oduah”.
And the school further said that they do not disclose student’s information except the inquirers present a Court subpoena.

Meanwhile, SR reported that the school informed them that they didn’t issue the Minister any MBA certificate.

In the same vein, Nigerian Liberation Movement contacted Chicago State University and inquired about Bola Tinubu’s certificate and the school’s Registrar informed them that they had already sent letter to a certain Gani Fawehinmi (the late lawyer and ONLY true activist in the history of Nigeria), that they do not disclose student’s information without presentation of Court subpoena.

But somehow, our remarkable entertainment Studio, Sahara Reporters, obtained a student’s information without Court subpoena. That’s entertainment at its best.

Well, now the Nigerian Senate has published the Minister’s CV she submitted to them and as expected, SR lied (of course if you consider them as a news media but some of us know better).
And Sahara Reporters and Premium Times have finally admitted that they lied against the Minister.

I expect two Court charges in the way of SR: one from St Paul’s College in US for lying against it, the second from the Aviation Minister for just about the same reason.
But in my opinion, it’s not necessary, rather they should offer Sahara Reporters the chance to pick up membership card with any of Hollywood’s production studios cause they have what it takes to produce the best political fiction anywhere in the world.
