PDP criticizes Ekiti Assembly over approval of new LGs

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has criticised the state House of Assembly for approving the creation of new local governments in the state.  The party, in a statement in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, by its Publicity Secretary, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, said the action of the assembly smacked of disrespect for law.

The PDP also said it was the height of illegality for the state lawmakers to increase the number of proposed local governments from 18 to 19 when referendum was conducted for 18 local governments.

“We were still in court challenging the legality of the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission when the body went ahead to organise an illegal referendum.

“The Assembly added more illegality to an illegal act by increasing the number of the councils.

“We are restating the fact that both SIEC and the assembly are into illegal acts.

“You cannot build something on nothing, the party is lawabiding and is calling on the people of the state to take note of what the outgoing government of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is doing,” the PDP stated.

It insisted that the approval by the assembly for Governor Kayode Fayemi to create new local governments was illegal.
