By PETRUS OBI, Enugu

Former president of Nigeria, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, and late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, are among the late prominent Igbo leaders to be honoured when the new coalition of pro-Biafra group, South East Self Determination Coalition, holds its inaugural rally in Enugu on October 27.

Other departed Igbo legends that will also be recognised for their outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the Igbo nation include Dr. Akanu Ibiam and Professor Chinua Achebe.

Also to be honoured are former vice president, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, Dr. Ebitu Ukiwe and Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu.

The coalition is a merger of over nine pro-Biafra groups, among which are Biafra National Congress, Biafra Liberation Force, Agunche Atuegwu Biafra, Omambara Youth Progressive Vanguard, Biafra Volunteer Force and Ogene Ukwu Ndigbo.

Others are Biafra Sovereign State Agitators, Voice of East Christian Forum and Biafra Liberation in Europe. In a statement signed by the coalition’s interim coordinator and the assistant coordinator, Samuel Edeson and Gregory Echewodo respectively, the groups announced their decision to merge and form a more formidable coalition.

The group, which met in Enugu for the third time yesterday, agreed to work together to promote and defend Igbo interest.

It also vowed to restore the lost dignity of the Igbo race without fear or intimidation from any quarters.

The proposed rally, which has been tagged, ‘Igbo Moral rebirth,’ the group stated, is to inspire the younger generation to imbibe hard work and noble virtues as packaged in the Igbo Code of Conduct.
