•Gov Yero condemns attacks

From ABDULGAFAR ALABELEWE, Kaduna

Gunmen have killed all eight members of a family in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State in the early hours of yesterday. Saturday Sungathered that armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen stormed Manchok town and wiped out the family of eight and disappeared into the bush.

The attack provoked the youths of Manchok town, who mobilized and attacked a Fulani settlement close to the town.

However, armed security personnel stationed close by tried to put the situation under control as all indications showed that the ugly incident was about to turn into full scale communal clash.

Meanwhile, the gravity of the incident has forced the state Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero to abandon other state duties and stormed the scene in order to pacify the warring parties.

Governor Yero, at the scene of the attack in Ungwar Kajit, Manchok community, described the heinous act as ungodly and condemnable.

While praying that God should expose the perpetrators, Governor Yero called on people in the community to remain calm as government will scale up its strategies to improve security, especially in border communities.

“We pray that God should expose the people that are causing this problem. We pray that God should touch their hearts to stop such dastardly acts or destroy their evil machinations. We are going to look at ways of dealing with this situation, because this community is porous and we must find way to improve security”, Yero promised

He, however, noted that communities at the state boundaries, especially with states that have security challenges have become vulnerable to attacks.

The governor, therefore, ordered full investigation into the attack and promised to empower community surveillance by vigilante groups in areas that have become prone to attacks, to complement formal security arrangements towards forestalling its recurrence.
