Catalonian 'Biafra Football Club'
Catalonians are friends with Igbo people, and do not make a secret of their love, support, alliance and aspiration for an Igbo homeland. At the height of the Biafran War, the people of Catalonia founded and ran a football club 'Biafra Football Club or Club Football Biafra.' The FC survived from 1969-1978.
Speaking to a news anchor of the African Democrat, Ramon Rovira, a Catalan national said the club was created to give support to the struggle of Biafra. Mr Rovira also added that in 2007, a small delegation of the club visited Dim Chukuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu in Enugwu - to give him the club's suit. Besides, he said the club assisted in Dim's funeral in Nnewi, and gave support to Lady Bianca and Emeka Ojukwu Jr. The reason behind this hand of friendship, concludes Mr Rovira, is because Catalonia and Igboland have the same freedom targets.
