Boko Haram is routed in Hong, and three villages

By DORIS OBINNA

Insurgent group, Boko Haram, yesterday, figuratively hung in Hong, as it fell under the superior firepower of the military. In a fierce battle, the group was badly pounded in Hong, Gombi, Pelia and subsequently flushed out from the three Adamawa communities. This is coming a few days after the insurgents were also sacked from Mubi, the second largest town in the state.

In a picture release by the PRNigeria, the military revealed that its operations in the three Adamawa villages were successful, as “the Nigerian troops mercilessly dealt with the terrorists with the recovery of the towns as well as their destroyed vehicles, hideouts, weapons and ammunition.”

It revealed that some members of Boko Haram were killed and many others captured, stating: “The ongoing military operations in the North-East of Nigeria is to clear all areas infested by terrorists.”

The military stated that mop-up exercise was ongoing in the Adamawa communities, while the troops were moving to other communities, in what a top security officer described as “Operation No Mercy Against Terrorists.”

The military stated on Twitter: “Our troops are in full control of Gombi, Pelia and Hong and more communities in Adamawa.”

A few days ago, the military, working with local hunters, had re-captured Mubi earlier taken over by Boko Haram.

One of the residents stated that the insurgents were on the run, as the army intensified attacks.

His words: “Earlier, today, soldiers launched a fierce attack, which saw the Boko Haram militants retreating. They have chased them away, but I am not sure how far they went. Right now, people are still afraid of returning to the town because of the shock of the capture. And some are afraid that Boko Haram may return; that is why the news is not being celebrated.”

In a related development, Adamawa State Governor, Bala Ngilari, has stated that a joint operation of the military, local hunters and the Civilian Joint Task Force, routed the insurgents.

According to him, “the insurgents have been flushed out of Mubi and are on the run.”
