APGA, PDP billboards destroyed in Imo smacks of political intolerance

What looks like political intolerance is brewing very fast in Imo State, following the massive destruction of billboards erected by loyalists of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Obowo and Njaba local council areas of the state.

Our correspondent who monitored the development, observed that only the billboards hoisted by loyalists of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, were still standing in Obowo, as at the time of the visit.

Confirming the ugly development in a telephone interview, Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho’s media aide, Barr Emperor Iwuala, described it as “most unfortunate and a very crooked way of expressing power”.

His words: “The destruction of bill boards erected for gubernatorial aspirant of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho, in Obowo and Njaba local government areas of the state, is not only most unfortunate, but a very crooked way of expressing power”.

Iwuala expressed displeasure at the rate political opponents were becoming intolerant, stating that “the destruction of the billboards is a strong indication that his principal has an intimidating political profile”.

Ihenacho’s media aide further reasoned that “the destruction the billboards cannot deter our principal in his call to run for the 2015 Governorship Election in Imo State, and it is attracting sympathy to him and invariably, making him more popular”.

Reacting also, a legal practitioner, Barr. Zach Okoronkwo, described it as “crude politics of terrorism”, adding that those in power to realize that the beauty of democracy is the presence of viable opposition.
