2015: Owerri zone insists on Imo charter of equity to succeed Okorocha

As the politics of 2015 gathers momentum in the state, the Owerri,  Peoples Assembly  (OPA), in collaboration with the Owerri  peoples Front have insisted on the Imo charter of Equity, as the Associations have   already commenced an intensive  and extensive consultation with  major stakeholders in the Orlu and Okigwe senatorial districts apparently to secure the support  of the two zones.

Already the two Owerri zonal organisations have concluded plans to organize  an all embracing   one day  summit on April 22 with the theme “Ahead of 2015 general elections: Owerri  zone, are we prepared?” which is expected to be attended by all prominent stakeholders of Owerri  zone extraction at home and aboard.

Nze Sylvester Osuigwe a former commissioner for lands, survey and urban planning, who briefed  newsmen on the forth coming summit  said that the exercise is meant to sensitize the people of Owerri Zone  on the need for collective efforts,  spirit of oneness and solidarity to ensure that the  government House Owerri does not elude the zone next year.

Osuigwe who hails from Ogbeke, Obibiezena in the Owerri  North council area expressed sadness that  Owerri zone which plays host to the Imo State capital had continued to be marginalized and  short changed in respect of the occupation of the highest office in the state, added that the zone was  no longer prepared to play a second fiddle.

He enjoined elders from the zone to prevail on all interested aspirants to reach a compromise in  the interest of the zone.

Also speaking at the occasion, Publisher and business mogul, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, explained that  as the leader of the PDP in the South East, he had not anointed anybody for the exalted office of  a governor stressing that what  is of paramount importance is for the zone to produce Governor Okorocha’s successor  next year irrespective of the   political party through  which this is  achieved.

Iwuanyanwu disclosed that all fairly minded Imo indigenes had acquiesced that Owerri zone  should produce  the next governor of the state since both  Orlu and Okigwe  had taken  their turns respectively.

“This is what we should do to have  a pride so that other zones would not say “what can  Owerri zone do?” he stated.
